Backwaters in Pondicherry
Pondicherry strikes a chord with tourists due to several reasons, and one of those reasons are its incredible backwaters, which are known as Chunnambar. Located about 8 km from the main town of Pondicherry, these clear and beautiful waters stretch make for one of the most popular tourist attractions in Pondicherry, and not without good reasons. Lined with dense vegetation and tall coconut trees overlooking them, these backwaters are a picture of pure serenity and delight.
On these waters, you can spot motorised boats filled with visitors, all eager to enjoy the beautiful views greeting their eyes. The sight of the backwaters in the morning, when the mist just begins to settle down, is beautiful enough to bring out the poet in you. The famous Paradise Beach, which is undoubtedly counted amongst the best beaches in Pondicherry, is located at the mouth of these backwaters. The ride towards it, is a rewarding experience.
