Tendong State Biodiversity Park Namchi
The Tendong State Biodiversity Park; sprawled on the southern part of the Maenam-Tendong ridge covers around 255 hectares of land blessed with thickets of Chestnuts, Bamboos, Canes, Oaks, Walnuts & Alders, and rich troves of medicinal and flowering plants. The place is rich in avifauna diversity and also rears varieties of endangered species of Sikkim Flora like the Barking Deer, Flying Squirrels and many more. Tendong State Biodiversity Park is a generous attempt of the Department of Forest, Environment and Wildlife, Government of Sikkim, to increase the population of such rare, threatened and endemic species for restoration in their natural habitats as well as developing other exploratory gardens for conservation.
What To Do And See
While exploring the adventurous treks of the Tendong Hill and Maenam Hill, take a diversion to Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary which is quite near to Tendong State Biodiversity Park. Adjoining to the biodiversity park, there is Temi Tea Estate the producer of the finest tea brand, that one can visit to admire the spectacular views of the mountains and greenery, as well as witness the processing of the Temi Tea. Namchi offers many such tourist spots that are soul enriching and worth visiting for a peaceful getaway such as Solophok Chardham that’s concerned with the hindu religion and few Buddhist monasteries like Ralang Monastery, Doling Gompa, Ngadak Monastery and Serdup Choling Monastery. Then there are another very popular tourists hotspot that has the repository of photographs situated within the premises of the giant statue of the Buddhist Padmasambhava at Samdruptse Hill.
Getting There
Tendong State Biodiversity Park is located 14 km away from Namchi. There are many SSRTC Buses / Shared Jeeps available from major towns of the cities to Namchi, from where one can take a bus or hire a private cab to reach at the beginning of this adventurous trek.
