Gurudongmar Lake Lachen

Lavishly sprawled at an altitude of 5425 m, the crystal clear Gurudongmar is a spectacular lake that mirrors the iced mountains enclosing it from all sides. It is one of the highest lakes in the world and is named after Guru Padmasambhava; also known as Guru Dongmar. The lake is considered to be carrying religious significance both in Buddhist and Sikhs religions. The surprising fact about this sanctified lake is that even in extreme winters, a part of this lake never freezes. The myth behind this is that Guru Dongmar had once touched and consecrated this lake and made it partially frozen throughout the year. The Lake also carries curing properties and offers the amazing view of Mount Siniolchu and Khanchendzonga.
