Vasantgad Fort Satara

Like other forts of India, Vasantgad too is completely in ruins. After entering the fort, the first thing that one will notice will be the Ganesha idol carved in the ramparts. Inside the fort, there is a huge temple of Chandrasen, the son of Shoorpanakha, Ravana’s sister. There are remnants of two more temple. The topmost region of the fort is strong and well fortified by strong bastions. To the south side of the fort, there is a Baston. View of the Koyna river from the top of the hill is a treat for the eyes.

GETTING THERE

The Vasantgad fort has a good route connectivity. One can reach Vasantgad fort by taking a private taxi or cab from anywhere in the city.

Sadashivgad Fort, Devi Krishnamai Temple, and Devi Koynamai Temple are some of the best places to visit in and around Vardhangad Fort.

HISTORY OF THE ATTRACTION

Construction of Vasantgad fort commenced in 1673 by Chhatrapati Shivaji, and by 1674, it was built with a purpose to guard the east frontier.In 1800, the fort was then acquired by Pratinidhi. After that, the fort became the battleground for many years.
