Sangachoeling Monastery Pelling
Located in the midst of a picturesque setting with fluttering prayer flags and calm environment, Sangachoeling is a prestigious monastery in Sikkim. It is noted to be one of the oldest and most important Buddhistshrines in Sikkim, besides, it also offers a splendid view of the snow-clad peaks. Sangachoeling is said to be built in the year 1697 and the creator of the monastery is Gyalwa Lhatsum Chempo who was the follower of the Nyingmapa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Inside this magnificent monastery, one can witness the ancient wall paintings, statues, unique clay statues and scriptures. There are also other important valuable artifacts stored in the premises of the Sangachoeling Monastery, which was actually remodelled after a fire incident.
Getting There
This monumental attraction can be reached by going for an hour and a half trek. It is 3 kilometre walking distance via Rani Dhunga Jungle Trek path.
Things to Do & See in and around
While here, one can also visit the nearby Pemayangtse Monastery. These monasteries are located opposite to each other. From here, you get a spectacular sight of the snow-clad Himalayan mountains. You can also go for a Rani Dhunga Jungle Trek which is a three hours trek.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Sangachoeling Monastery is from March to June, when the weather is pleasant and comparatively warm.
