Naharkatia Town Dibrugarh

Naharkatiya is a town located in the Dibrugarh district of Assam. It is a commercial town of the district and has many villages and tea gardens. This place has a very tragic history connected with it. An Ahom noble named Kalia had beheaded Prince Nahar near the railway station of the town and from this incident the place came to known as Naharkatia. Today, this town is being explored by many travelers. There are many attractions in this town and also you get to discover many new places near Naharkatia. There are some beautiful villages that are located in close vicinity to the town some of which are Sasoni Gojpuria, Namphake, Merbill Eco Tourism and Gobhuro Dolong.

A few distance away from the town is the historic Jeypore Rainforest, which is a must visit place. This forest is home to the Royal Bengal tiger, leopards, wild cats and many other wildlife creatures. The simple lifestyle of the village people living here is really very heart touching. The town also has a Vainavi Satra which was founded by Sriram Ata many years ago. This satra is considered to be of great importance for the people living here and many devotees visit this religious site as well. This town also comprise of the oldest oil pool of the state of Assam.

GETTING THERE 

The town has its own railway station which is named as the Naharkatia Railway Station. The tourists will also get many private buses from Namrup, Dibrugarh, Moran, Sibsagar and Jorhat that take you to this town within few hours.
