Agasthyakoodam Peak Kerala

Agasthyakoodam is the second highest peak in Kerala with a height of 1890 m above sea level. The mountain peak is the part of the Sahyadri Ranges of Western Ghats, and is quite scenic. The mountain is adorned with rich wildlife and is abound in rare medicinal herbs. It is also dotted with multi-hued orchids, and thus is perfect for photography. A birdwatcher’s paradise, can only be trekked either from a base point called Kotoor, which is near Neyyar Dam or a place called Bonakkad. Though a permit to trek has to be obtained from the wildlife office in Thiruvananthapuram. The legend has it that sage Agasthya once lived here.

Note: Women are not allowed up the peak.

GETTING THERE

The mountain peak has to be trekked from two base point, one at Kotoor and another Bonakkad.

THINGS TO DO & SEE IN AND AROUND

Birdwatching is ideal thing to do here apart from trekking. Photography can also be enjoyed to the fullest at this place.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

The season from December to April is considered ideal for trekking.
